Winning with Intention + Positioning

New year, new goals, and most likely new years resolutions!  We all have a list of resolutions we have made in previous years but never completed or given up on. I’ve never been a fan of new years resolutions. It creates a false sense of control over something we haven’t properly positioned ourselves to achieve.  It’s not the end of the world though, viewing your goals differently can help you achieve your goals more effectively. It’s just a chance to re-position and approach your goals differently. Here are my tips:

  1. Don’t try and achieve all your goals all at once. Pick your top 3 and rank them in order of importance. This will give you the biggest return for your efforts and make the greatest impact in your business.
  2. Be SMART with your goals. Think about these factors when writing them down – are they specific, attainable. relevant and time based. Then break down the goal into manageable chunks. You may want to even create an action or project plan of tasks and actions. Ticking off little things, will ultimately help you work towards your goal quicker, methodically, and more intentionally.
  3. Block out time each day to complete tasks on your action plan. If we don’t set aside development time, it generally doesn’t happen. Treat your development like an appointment. Then turn your phone off, and make it happen. Momentum will continue to build and before you know it you are achieving above and beyond!
  4. Know when your clearest and most productive work times are. For me, I think the clearest in the morning.  My phone isn’t ringing, my inbox is quiet, and its the fist few hours of the day.  For other people, it might be night time!
  5. Understand your mental blocks.  At the end of the day we all have mental blocks at different times.  For me its been about acknowledging them when they arise, and then working through the, step by step.  When i’m writing for example, when I feel like my flow has stopped, I will change what I am doing on that project.  I am currently writing a book, and when I feel I cant write anymore, I go into edit mode, or inspirational quote mode.  This means I am still working on that project, but in different ways.  Instead of feeling stuck, I just change up what I am doing on that project.
  6. Work in blocks. I like to attack big tasks in large blocks of time, over 1 hour here and there. Sometimes its easier to block out a whole day or weekend, map it out, and get stuff done without distraction.
  7. Surround yourself with high achievers, and on similar journeys.  They say you are the sum total of the top 5 people you hang around with.
  8. Celebrate!  Celebrate your little wins and milestones, all the way through to your big wins and milestones!  It’s important to treat yourself along the way.

Make this year the year you ditch new years resolutions, and work smarter with your goals.  Get intentional about how you position yourself, what you do with your time, who you hang around with, and how you manage your time.  Every moment, hour and decision matters. You’d be surprised at just how far along you get with your projects and your goals.
